The Role

Bloomberg News seeks an editor in its Johannesburg office to join its commodities team to shape local and EMEA, commodities companies and markets news stories.

The successful applicant will produce breaking news stories under real-time deadline pressure, ensuring they are clear, comprehensive and accurate. The editor will focus on breaking news such as market reports, company earnings and takeovers, and will also be expected to produce enterprise pieces on a regular basis. The successful applicant is expected to have the proven ability to make snap decisions about stories that regularly appear on TOP, Bloomberg's front page. The editor will also be expected to serve as a mentor and coach to reporters and be comfortable working within a team environment.

Knowledge of the economy, financial markets and business is essential, ideally with experience of Commodities markets.

Qualifications:

  • Journalism experience is essential
  • Experience of working in a real-time news environment in desirable
  • Proven track record editing financial news or business stories.
  • Ability to coach reporters on sourcing, interviewing and writing.
  • A passion for breaking news and innovative story ideas.
